The Building Blocks of Communication

Many different communication approaches are used by families enrolled in CHIP. The CO-Hear Coordinators and the CHIP Facilitator works with each family to help them select the communication approach they want to use with their child. The graphic below identifies the different features of communication. Selected features are combined to represent different communication approaches. Parents are encouraged to identify the features their child uses and the features they want their child to use. This objective selection process helps parents to select the approach that meets their child's needs and their family's preferences.
