Safe School Plan

In order to provide a learning environment that is safe, conducive to the learning process, and free from unnecessary disruption, CSDB has adopted and implemented a “Safe School Plan.”  In general, adequate attention to safety is the responsibility of every person.  All persons in or on CSDB property or at school-sponsored events should take reasonable precautions to provide for their own safety and welfare and to ensure the safety and welfare of others, including students, employees, volunteers, and visitors.

Students, employees, volunteers, and visitors will adhere to approved safety, first aid, and health care policies and procedures which pertain to school facilities, special areas of instruction, student transportation vehicles, school athletic programs, school-sponsored activities, occupational safety, and other areas of school operations.  The superintendent or his/her designee may, prospectively or retrospectively, excuse any person from adhering to such policies and/or procedures.

Safety will be considered a facet of the instructional program at CSDB.  Following consultation with their school accountability committee, other school administrators, students, and, where appropriate, the community at large, principals will establish goals and objectives relating to safety as one element of the School Improvement Plan.

The principal of each school and the director of student life will report information regarding the student learning environment to the superintendent and the Board of Trustees on an annual basis.  This information in turn will be included in the annual report to parents and the community.

Nothing in this policy will be construed as a waiver of immunity or as an assumption of a duty of care where none otherwise existed.
