The American Sign Language (ASL) Immersion program for professionals, hosted by CSDB, June 17-20, 2015, had 32 participants who work in schools with students, who are deaf and hard of hearing.
The American Sign Language Immersion program for families, was also held on the CSDB campus, June 22 – 25, 2015, with fifteen families, participating.
Both groups participated in intensive ASL instruction and activities, with the goal of increasing sign fluency and communication.
Attendees interacted with a variety of individuals, who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, to expose attendees to a wide array of diverse signing styles. The attendees also had opportunities to interact with mentors, who are deaf, on a one-to-one basis, to ensure their priorities for learning sign vocabulary, specific to their own needs, were met. The participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to interact with so many individuals who use ASL as their primary communication mode.
