School for the Blind FOSS

Girl explains her FOSS system to another student in the classroomThe upper elementary classroom, in the School for the Blind, uses the Full Option Science System (FOSS) to help our students explore the world. FOSS provides pre-planned projects, to enhance student learning. This month, we have been exploring the models and systems module, learning how to design models to explain systems we cannot fully explore (called “black boxes”), and creating systems wherein parts work together to achieve an end goal. The photo shows one student explaining the “humdinger system” to another student…a project that helped us explore both electrical systems and “cause and effect.” Scientific vocabulary is also expanding through this process!
