School honored with award
The School for the Blind provides education to students in self-advocacy and community service. It also offers training to community agencies about issues facing individuals who are blind/visually impaired. High school students, involved with Student Body Government, have provided training on the Human Guide technique and white cane use with the police department, fire department, the United States Air Force Academy, the Fine Arts Center, and even Chapel Hills Mall.
The school was honored, by the Independence Center, for the Human Guide trainings and for providing accessibility so CSDB students had the opportunity to vote in this past general election. Lisa VanDam represented the School for the Blind and accepted the award from Mayor John Suthers, at the Independence Center luncheon.
