Family Literacy Packs


Family
Literacy Packs are backpacks for
loan to families of CSDB students,
programs
and families with Deaf and Hard of hearing
children throughout
the state of Colorado.
The packs include five to six children’s books
around a theme, activities and all materials
designed for family use, a
sign language DVD
or VHS video of the stories in American Sign
Language (ASL),
and a log to record feedback.
The Family Literacy Pack Project was created to improve literacy and increase academic achievement for students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Visually Impaired statewide.
Goals
To improve
literacy skills of Deaf/Hard or hearing children
To improve sign language skills
of Deaf/Hard or hearing children and their
families
To increase family
communication and foster positive family interactions
To improve language skills of
Deaf/Hard of Hearing students
To help families apply ITI
principles in the home
To help families use variety of
activities that involve the eight intelligences
