High School English Literacy Program for the Deaf

Welcome the CSDB High School English Literacy Web Page.  It is extremely important that the education of high school students who are Deaf occur in a language-rich environment that provides meaningful experiences with ASL and written English. The goal in high school is to foster the development of receptive and expressive skills in American Sign Language and English competence, at the same time respecting individual cultural and language differences in students. Such language competence facilitates effective communication, life-long learning, success in the workplace and community, effective use of technology, and critical thinking skills. CSDB believes that English literacy is a critical factor necessary for Deaf individuals to fully participate in society. We believe that acquiring a solid first language base through ASL will enable students to reach their highest proficiency in English.
