High School Options Program

              

The High Risk/Options classroom provide for the unique needs of students who are considered “high risk.”  In this environment the students can focus on their behaviors, emotions, academics, and attitude issues. This program helps students develop confidence, positive self-esteem, discipline, and strategies for success.           

The teacher’s position is to support and help meet the individual student’s needs. With a clearly structured curriculum, the school has designed a classroom in which students can be successful in any avenue of his/her choosing including but not limited to on-the-job training, vocational classes, the CSDB Transition Program (Post-Secondary Education), and local community colleges or universities.  The following objectives are the foundation of the Options Program:

 

Academic Objectives:

       Complete all homework assignments

       Complete coursework in subject areas such as:  English, Math, Literature, or Social Studies

       Participate in all class activities

       Complete all graduation requirements

 

Behavior Objectives:

       Have a positive attitude

       Control emotions appropriately

       Respect administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and fellow students

       Develop behaviors appropriate to in and out of the school classroom

       Earn points as rewards for appropriate behaviors  

 

The Alternative Career Education (ACE) Program Focus

       Use hands on-experiences with skilled workers to teach students

       Assist students in preparing for job opportunities after graduation

       Use job shadowing on campus to integrate academic and behavioral objectives to better     prepare students for a successful career

       Assist students in the development of pre-employment skills such as the following:

o      Writing resumes

o      Completing job/school applications

o      Understanding money management

o      Following established dress codes

o      Developing job interview skills
