CSDB Outreach

Meeting the Needs of Students and Professionals Statewide

Since the early 1990's the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) has been increasingly involved in activities outside its 37-acre campus in Colorado Springs. Through collaboration with other agencies CSDB has created numerous outreach projects and facilitated or supported many others. The school's outreach services are described as either "direct" or "indirect" but all outreach services are designed to benefit non-CSDB students, school districts, families and/or communities throughout the State of Colorado.

Direct outreach services are sustained, ongoing services provided by CSDB to any student age 0-21 and who is blind or deaf and enrolled in a public school district in the state. Examples of direct outreach services include:

  • Educational Consultation/Services
  • Counseling Services
  • Orientation and Mobility
  • Short Term Courses
  • These services are funded through a variety of sources including state and federal grants, contracts with districts, and CSDB.

Indirect outreach services are short-term, specific in nature, and support CSDB's role as a resource to school districts, families, and communities. Examples o f these include the following:

As time passes and the needs of students change, so has the school. As in the past, CSDB continues to serve in a leadership role in molding the future of students throughout the state. Through its ever-growing understanding of outreach, it will continue to expand its programming to meet the needs of non-CSDB students who are D/HH or blind/visually impaired.
