Short Term Courses 2007-2008

The School for the Blind at CSDB offers short-term courses during
the 2007-2008 school year. The major areas of focus will be as follows:

• Compensatory Skills
•
Daily Living Skills
•
Orientation and Mobility
•
Computer Technology for the Blind/Visually Impaired

The Short Term Course offerings, developed to serve students throughout the state
of Colorado, help students benefit from a short period of intensive instruction in an area of the expanded core curriculum for visually impaired students. We want your help in
designing your student’s program. We have set aside specific weeks (see below) for the
courses, but we can lengthen, shorten or change the dates based on specific needs for
your student.

How A Short Term Course Can Help:
•
Provide intensive instructional boost with only a short time away from home
•
Teach disability-specific skills that are pre-requisite to success in the regular
  classroom

•
Provide individualized instruction to meet specific learning needs of academic
  students

•
Provide temporary removal of multiple demands
•
Address learning gaps caused by instructional overload
•
Provide opportunities for professional collaboration regarding the individual
  needs of students

Short Term Course Schedule for the 2007-2008 School Year:

DATES Expanded Core Curriculum Area of Focus
January 13-18, 2008 Technology & Daily Living Skills
January 24-26, 2008 Introduction to Bus Travel & Social Skills
February 10-15, 2008 Recreation & Leisure & Daily Living Skills
April 10-12, 2008 Introduction to Bus Travel & Social Skills

Please contact us for more information, for application or to discuss an individualized
program. Feel free to become involved and to participate in the programs. We will
happily work out arrangements for your stay at CSDB.

The student should bring homework and missed assignments that can be tutored by a
peer. There is not an opportunity to teach missed academic class work, however we will
allow a class period to be designed to allow the student to continue to work on
assignments.

Other short-term courses include the Sports Education Camps, a partnership with United States Association of Blind Athletes, Close-Up, Space Camp, Guide Dog Seminars, College Recruitment program, and academic day programs with art and history museums. Close-Up is a weeklong government studies adventure for junior and senior students, which occurs in Washington D.C. Space Camp is a weeklong space studies adventure for middle school students which occurs in Huntsville, Alabama.
