Come visit the School for the Blind at the Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind. Walk through the halls and peek into the classrooms. One particular class is always busy learning. In this classroom the classes are structured to make sure the students are getting optimal learning experiences. The students eagerly enter this classroom knowing that at the end of the day they will have increased their knowledge and abilities. The teacher? Dian Megarry! He makes the world come alive for his students. Giving them hands-on experiences to understand what the rest of the world sees, Dian adapts materials and information to the learning ability and style of each individual student. He knows each student is capable of learning and does everything in his power to be sure learning happens.
Dian is the teacher of this upper elementary and middle school class of students who have low vision or are blind. He teaches language, science, social studies, math, reading and writing, and compensatory skills. He ensures that the curriculum is meaningful for his students and aligned with Colorado State Standards. Dian began his employment at CSDB in the fall of 1993 and has been instrumental in giving students a solid knowledge base before they move on to high school. It is electrifying to watch Dian's students involved in learning activities and observe the excitement grow as each one shouts "I get it!" because they finally can relate to a concept which previously was beyond their understanding.
