Mission Statement
The Student Body Government is committed to serving the students of the School for the Blind, developing self-esteem, leadership skills, self-advocacy, service learning, developing and building assets, conflict resolution, and developing partnerships and community service within the community. The month of September we participated in the Black Forest League Student Body Government Conference at the Colorado Springs School. The conference activities included: Colorado Springs Assets for Youth, Asset Building Ideas, Mediation and Training Services, and Service Learning. The SBG will hold a food drive in the month of November. We donated all food collected to the food pantry of Westside Cares for the Thanksgiving holidays. We will donate a gift certificate to a family for a Thanksgiving dinner.
The month of November we hold a fundraiser selling poinsettias for the winter holidays. A portion of the profits was will used to purchase Christmas gifts for names we will draw from the angel tree from the agency, Westside Cares. Agencies from the angel tree, includes the interfaith hospitality network, life support, assisted support, silver key, and various nursing homes in the Pikes Peak area. The SBG will help the elementary students with Christmas shopping at Target.Future activities include a Saint Patrick's Day dance, a fundraiser selling lilies and spring bulb flowers for the spring holidays. The Student Body Government members will provide in-services on visual impairment within the community of Colorado Springs and surrounding communities upon request.
