Job Description:

The Colorado Home Intervention Program first hired regional coordinators in 1987. At that time, the program sought to maintain a model for intake and technical assistance that had been the standard of care for 18 years. Since its inception, the director of the program talked to and met with a family that wanted information about early intervention programs. And, the program director provided technical assistance to the providers who made regular home visits. When the program started in 1969, there were less than 15 families receiving services. Gradually the program grew to 30 families, then 50 families, and then 65 families. As the number of families increased, it became increasingly difficult for the program director to maintain the same service standards. There were two options at this time. One option was to discontinue these services. It was possible for the interventionists to operate more independently and without the same level of assistance from the program director. However, this option did not receive support from the interventionists, especially the ones working in rural areas. The second option was to develop a new structure, with regional coordinators who could talk with the families and provide technical assistance to the providers.

The program consequently hired ten regional coordinators. The boundaries for the regions were subsequently redrawn and a ninth coordinator was hired. They assumed the responsibilities once assumed by the program director. The program director was now responsible for assuring that the regional coordinators provided a similar standard of care statewide. To that end, the regional coordinators meet on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

• Experience as an interventionist

• Ability to work in partnership with families

• Ability to coordinate activities and organize meetings

• Has sufficient knowledge to provide technical assistance to interventionists and professionals from other agencies in the following areas: hearing loss, amplification, language assessment, intervention, family-centered intervention

• Ability to assume a leadership role

Credentials:

• Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology (CCC-A)

• Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech/Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)

• Certification from the Colorado Department of Education

Responsibilities:

• Supervises interventionist in the region

Infant development Parent counseling Speech Communication and language Auditory training

• Disseminating information

• Organizing local workshops

• Monitoring and reviewing quarterly reports

• Hires and assists with training of new interventionists

• Represents the Colorado Home Intervention Program

Submitting quarterly reports to the program director Participating in working groups for specific projects (Otitis Media, CODA, Deaf Adult Outreach Group, Grant for children who have combined hearing and vision loss, F.A.M.I.L.Y. Assessment, Sign Language Instruction)

• Reviews current literature about Part C and family-centered intervention

• Assists with the development and implementation of CHIP policies and procedures to reflect current best practices

• Collects data relevant to program growth, program management, program evaluation

• Participates on local Inter-Agency Coordinating Councils (ICC)

• Contributes to community capacity building by offering information about hearing loss, family-centered intervention, parent choice, etc.

• Maintains a working relationship with local Part C agencies, Child Find Programs, local school district programs, BOCES, and local public health offices

• Supports families with children with hearing loss in the region by:

Submitting quarterly reports to the program director Participating in working groups for specific projects (Otitis Media, CODA, Deaf Adult Outreach Group, Deaf-Blind Grant, F.A.M.I.L.Y. Assessment, Sign Language Instruction)

• Discussing program options with families

• Providing service coordination on request

• Completing intake for new families

• Assists families with funding for amplification and early intervention services

• Monitors customer satisfaction and implements program's needs assessment

• Implements program within the budgetary allowances for the region
