Sign Language Instructors

In order to maximize the child with a hearing loss acquisition of language during this critical period of development, family members need to become skilled sign language communicators. • Work in a family-centered program

  • Work independently, complete tasks without daily supervision

Credentials:

  • Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and/or Pidgin Signed English (PSE) and/or Conceptually Accurate Signed English (CASE)

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited school

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching the family how to communicate with their child using sign language

  • Interacting with the child in play activities using sign language

  • Maintaining a portfolio containing lesson plans, and workshop handouts

  • Submitting monthly progress reports

  • Communicating, on a regular basis, with the CHIP Parent Facilitator in order to provide a comprehensive program for the family
