The Sign Language Instructor provides a vital service to families who have decided to use American Sign Language (ASL) or another sign system to communicate with their child. In order to maximize the child with a hearing loss acquisition of language during this critical period of development, family members need to become skilled sign language communicators. This can best be accomplished in a family-centered environment where the instructor comes into the home and teaches the family through a combination of activities, interaction, and modeling, meeting the unique needs of each family.
