Middle School Math

Middle School math curriculum continues this year in the Passport to Mathematics (Book 1, Book 2, Algebra and Geometry) and Basic Math Skills series.

This year’s theme is “Community”. All grade levels will have a major project completed at the end of the school year. The sixth graders are designing and building a small community, the seventh graders will be choosing a specific career, design and build, to scale, an office or a type of work space related to their career and the eighth graders will be building a small city. The students will also choose a specific building in their community, create the interior of that building and build it, to scale. Math concepts will be a major part of their designs and developments. Their projects will be on display at the end of the school year.

Study trips are a large part of the math classes as well. Students will be visiting communities and a variety of career fields as they work on their year-long project.

A typical day includes:

  • Problem for the Day
  • Math concepts, teamwork, activities and practice

One-minute and three-minute math drills of computational skill once a week
