Argo West -- High School Boys who are Deaf
[ Image here ]
Currently, Argo West houses the high school boys. We encourage our kids to join varsity sports during the year. We have a quiet hour on a daily basis to ensure that the boys get their homework done in a timely manner. We also have a tutoring program that can help with assistance when the boys have difficulty with homework. The Activities program offers this twice a week in the library. Volunteers and our student interns help out with the tutoring. We also encourage the boys to be actively involved in our weekly dorm meetings where they have an opportunity to share their opinions about the dorm environment. The kids do enjoy the rap sessions that sometimes happen.
During these meetings the boys will decide what kind of monthly activities will be held and they take turns making the monthly calendar. We help the boys with daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking, etc. Some of the activities they plan involve movies, going out to eat, a VCR movie night, playing racquetball or or ice-skating. Weather permitting we have watched the Deaf Club softball games and various other outdoor activities.
