ASL Immersion for Families 2019

Collage of activites with adults and children, during ASL Immersion The CSDB American Sign Language (ASL) Immersion Program for families was held June 17 – June 19, on the CSDB campus. Sixteen families participated in intensive ASL instruction and activities with the goal of increasing sign fluency and communication within the families, including their child with a hearing loss and siblings. Three families included their grandparents in the event.

The family members interacted with a diverse group of individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing to expose the family members to a wide array of diverse signing styles. The family members also had opportunities to interact with individuals who are deaf, during mealtimes for social conversations. The participants expressed thanks for the valuable experience of immersion.
