The Week

Presenter uses ASL with 12 adult students in a classroom. Four adult students focus toward the front of the room.

“The Week” skill-building workshop provided professional training for Educational Interpreters and Teachers of the Deaf, giving them an opportunity to:

  • Improve expressive and receptive transliterating and interpreting skills
  • Interact with professionals
  • Become immersed in a signing environment
  • Collaborate and network with other professionals serving students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Workshop topics/activities included:

  • ASL Grammar and Structure
  • Facial Grammar
  • ASL Morphology and Non-Manual Behavior
  • Fingerspelling/Number Incorporation
  • Classifiers and Directionality
  • Use of Space
  • Discourse Analysis
  • Educational Vocabulary
  • Country Signs
  • Difficult Terminology
  • Reading to Children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Participants were involved in 30 hours of sign language activities.  “This was the best training!  I’m so happy I decided to attend. Thank you!”
